"JP" and Dr. Johannah Caturan- Pornan were approved by the GDMMissions' Board of Directors in October, 2011 as Associate Missionaries. Both JP and Hannah were raised in Christian homes where God gave them a burden for evangelism and missions at an early age. JP is a graduate of Doane Baptist Seminary in Iloilo City, Philippines and currently pastor of a local church in Davao. Johannah is a physician in residency at Davao Doctor's Hospital in Davao City, Philippines. (Shortly after joining GDMMissions Johannah gave birth to Josh Cadmiel, their first child, with great joy and thanksgiving.) It is their desire to evangelize the lost, plant churches, and train church leaders using medicine as means of ministry among Muslims who make up 32 percent of the 30 million population of the greater island of Mindanao, Philippines. As GDMMissions representatives they will coordinate our general ministries in the Philippines. Together they will spearhead Muslim outreach ministries in Mindanao and beyond using medical evangelism. We look forward with them to seeing how God will work in the lives of JP, Johannah, and their new family as they dedicate their lives to being witnesses for Christ in the Philippines.
Katrina Caturan, R.N. joined GDMMissions in 2010 as an Associate Missionary. Katrina’s parents are medical missionaries and she was born on the mission field in the Philippines. This upbringing resulted in her giving her life at an early age to serve the Lord in medical missions. After graduating with a Nursing degree from Bob Jones University she returned to her home in New Jersey to work in a teaching hospital where she is an operating room (OR) nurse. She has had many opportunities to demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ to her patients and co-workers. After Katrina participated with GDMMissions on a joint dental and medical team in the Philippines she knew she wanted to be part of this ministry. Since becoming an Associate Missionary she has participated in a follow-up trip to the Philippines and another to Yap, Micronesia. With a heart for reaching the lost with the Gospel, Katrina is excited about how God will use her gifts on the next GDMMissions. Her twin sister, Johanna, is a physician in the Philippines (see below) and Katrina is looking forward to working with her wherever the Lord leads.
Mary Chase is GDMMissions' first Associate Missionary. She is a full-time dental hygienist in a dental office and she and her husband Tim live in Orford, N.H. and attend Wentworth Baptist Church. Mary has been keenly interested in foreign missions since she was a child but marriage, raising a family, and a full-time career seemed to put into the background any chance of being a missionary. By God’s providence she sat next to Dr. Jack Mitchell at a Bible conference, saw the toothbrush design on his tie, and found out that he was a “dental missionary.” She never knew there was such a missionary! Her enthusiasm grew more after she was part of a dental evangelism team to Mexico in 2009. She shared Christ with most every patient she saw during five days of dental ministry, stating excitedly, “This is the coolest thing in the world!” Since then she has returned to Mexico several times and has participated in combined dental and medical ministries in the Philippines and Peru. Mary's energy and enthusiasm for sharing the Gospel are contagious on every field evangelism trip. She is willing to go wherever God wants her as a key member of our team.
